Guiguisuisui[鬼鬼祟祟] Indonesian Tour Diary

At sun down Tokoh came to pick me up for a street noise show in Sidoarjo. He explained that every Indonesia city has its own experimental and DIY scene, and each one has its own unique characteristic.

Sidoarjo’s vibe is all about homemade instruments, almost steampunk like contraptions with cogs and gears alongside wood and strings. They have formed a sort of club, meeting and performing in the streets, straight up noise invasions.

On that night we performed next to a busy road, on what looked like a bus stop but was simply a little concrete platform raised above the road with a roof over it. After waiting around for everyone to come an bring their instruments, amps, and batteries things got underway.

The passing headlights illuminated such a wonderful collection of instruments, most of which made The Diddly Board look quite tame, more like props out of Riddly Scott sci-fi flick. Tokoh played a meat grinder. I smashed around The Diddly Board with my screwdriver. More performers, droning electronics, masks, dissonant strings on steampunk guitars, instruments played with fire that I didn’t understand, masks, more angle grinders! Angle grinder versus steel cogs, sparks showering into the road, sparks bouncing off the The Diddly Board as I held it closer while I turned away to protect my eyes.

Finally three guys working electronics as two performers emerged from the darkness. One stripped down to his underwear and placed a plastic basket over his head, shoulders and arms, moving around the makeshift stage by the roadside with liquid elegance, improvised yet careful movements to the symphony of electronic noise. From the darkness the second performer emerged, also stripped down to his underwear. The performance spilled out into the road, a crowd of pedestrians and commuters having stopped to watch this bizarre spectacle. The second performed took out his dick and started pissing into road, the puddle spreading under the wheels of the passing cars. The performance ended as the figures melted back into the darkness and the electronic noise faded to the drone of the traffic.

YY Klepto Opera AKA Tokoh Antagonist

Melawan Kebisingan Kota stage 8

Halte GOR Sidoarjo

Sempat trpikir mnggunakan kulit hewan sbg membran, tp suaranya mungkin mendem, tdak nyaring kecuali alatnya besar seperti intunarumori asli.

Local Scene: Yoyon, vocalist of Klepto Opera

source: http://def-n.com/post/67168983297/local-scene-yoyon-vocalist-of-klepto-opera

Let’s take a deep looking to local Surabaya noise scene, treasures are existing

image

Running along keyboard and pages of Chromium internet browser, we finally have succeed an interview with Yoyon, one of formers of the band called Klepto Opera. Having more than 15 years career experience in noise art, he tells what is in his view of the noise scene.

Hi Mr Yoyon, what is “noise” in your point of view?

Hi, def-n. I have ever thought about a noise philosophy for myself, why I did and still do this for this long, what I realy looking for, and I still cannot find any answer about it. Maybe, it is just a chaotic feeling. Life is a chaos. We may plan everything but we still cannot make it sure, thus.. If it is true that life is a chaos why don’t we “mixing-it-in-harmony?” Just let it flow.

In our experiences, there are some kinds of noise existed. What about you? What are your opinions about the complexity of noise?

Yeah, sure… Every noisehead want to describe every single thing they did, all the sounds. They want to manage it into something as every sound has its door so they can choose which door they shall through in. It is only a bullshit business in order to promote and deal with any (industrial) media.

We are watching your career in some of your works. Can you tell us about your band Klepto Opera, especially, the newest formation?

We have got no time to be solid anymore, in other words, we have split up. There are only 3 buddies which have stayed. They also turn their view, their sound, their music into “a-lazy-street-hardcore” sound.

Why are you excited to noise?

I love the mystery. I always stare the stage 10-15 minutes before I perform and asking myself what sound will appear from it.

What is your plan in the future with your band Klepto Opera or any other project?

We stand still and make some “rebellion” to the music industry. You can check the works on melawankebisingankota.tumblr.com. We do some noise workshops or many little gigs.

Wow! It’s awesome!

Is there any gig for Klepto Opera in the nearest future?

Yup! We’ll get the stage on Dec 7, Discoresist Festival; Dec 29, Grunge Party; and January 2014, Guitar Abuses.

They’re worth to be waiting. Thank you.

Any suggestion for us to improve our web blog and for readers?

Just do it and never think about it.
